    Recovery Bible Study Is a study that brings God’s word to those suffering from addiction and substance abuse.
    We use a special Bible called “The Life Recovery Bible” which utilizes the 12 step method with the purpose of bringing people to Christ.

Rev. Sara Webb Phillips

 
Sara Webb Phillips was born and raised in Jackson,Tennessee. She earned her bachelors degree from The University of Tennessee-Memphis and later earned her Master of Divinity from Emory University. Sara is married to Dr. Ed Phillips and the couple have three daughters. Among her extensive accomplishments Sara has published several books and has been active on many levels in The United Methodist Church. A few of Sara's hobbies include cheering on her favorite college basketball and football teams, reading, gardening and traveling.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Don Shannon - Pastor of Care & Recovery

Don is a life long Atlanta resident. His high school education was at Druid Hills and Briarcliff and he attended The University of the South 1962-1966. Don is the President of LDI Chemical Sales and part time licensed local pastor in the North Ga. Conference of the UnitedMethodistChurch. Currently he is appointed to Brookhaven UMC as Minister of Pastoral Care. In addition to ministering to our general congregation, Don is active in the Recovery Bible Study group which meets every week, Tuesday at 7:00 in the fellowship hall. We bring Christ to men and women recovering from substance abuse using the Life Recovery Bible.


Daniel Cherrix - Director of Music

Our Director of Music Ministries and Organist, Daniel Cherrix, received a BA in Organ Performance and Church Music from Erskine College and a Master of Sacred Music from Emory University. Daniel has performed recitals and services at churches throughout the East Coast, Midwest and England.  Daniel’s service-playing and improvisational skills have been featured on National Public Radio. Daniel brings an enthusiasm for program-building, congregational song, and cross-generational involvement.   


Todd Salmi - Director of Family Ministries

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee of Brookhaven United Methodist Church is happy to announce the recent addition of Todd Salmi to the church staff as Director of Family Ministries. Todd will be working with our Children's Council, outreach to parents and giving support to youth ministries. He will also be one of our Contextual Education students from Candler in the fall.

Todd  is a rising second year Master of Divinity student in the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.   He is on the ordination track as an Elder in the United Methodist Church.  He is a native Texan, graduate of the University of Texas with both business and Spanish degrees, and co-founded a successful software company focused on hiring safe employees.

His home church is Hyde Park UMC in Austin Texas, where he has been a member for over 10 years.  At Hyde Park he was a member of Admin Council and focused on evangelism and adult bible study.  He recently moved to Atlanta from Mexico after living there for two years with his family.  In Mexico, he led the children’s Christian education program at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in Cuernavaca. 

He is the proud father of two sons and one daughter, and a lucky husband. His wife Mari recently started work at Morehouse School of Medicine as the Graduate Teaching Lab Coordinator for the Masters and PhD students. His oldest son Martin is going into second grade at Fernbank Elementary. His two year old Wesley goes to an Emory Early Childhood Center, and his 9 month old daughter Marielle keeps her father busy this summer as she hangs out with him at home and out and about. 

 

 


Anita Green - Office Administrator

Anita Green, Office Administrator, is a recent Interdenominational Theological Center graduate, (Pastoral Care and Counseling), and comes with much experience in the corporate world and has a passion for ministry. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland., and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English Literature, from the University of Baltimore. She is also an ordained Baptist clergywoman. She is married to Dwayne, a licensed Funeral Director, and they reside in Mableton, GA.

Myra is the Director of the Child Development Center at Brookhaven.


John Fields - Staff Handyman

John Fields

John is our volunteer staff handyman.  John is a lifelong member of Brookhaven and has broad experience in building maintenance, including electrical and plumbing work.  John is eager to work with church folks who would like to learn basic home repair skills while helping out around the church. We are grateful for John’s skills, time and energy that he gives to the church.
